Abstrak

Statistika dan ekonomi adalah dua disiplin ilmu yang telah lama menjalin hubungan yang sangat erat dan saling memperkuat. Sejak para ekonom pertama mulai menyadari bahwa pertanyaan-pertanyaan besar tentang kemakmuran bangsa, distribusi pendapatan, dan efektivitas kebijakan tidak dapat dijawab hanya dengan logika deduktif semata — melainkan harus diuji dan dikalibrasi terhadap kenyataan empiris yang diamati secara sistematis — statistika menjadi jantung dari ilmu ekonomi kuantitatif. Buku ini hadir sebagai respons terhadap kebutuhan yang sangat nyata akan sebuah teks komprehensif yang membahas statistika dari perspektif ekonomi secara utuh, mendalam, dan relevan dengan konteks Indonesia.
Perjalanan intelektual yang diwakili oleh buku ini dimulai dari fondasi yang paling dasar — konsep data, pengukuran, dan deskripsi statistika — dan secara bertahap membangun pemahaman hingga ke metode-metode yang paling canggih yang digunakan dalam penelitian ekonomi mutakhir. Pembahasan tentang pengumpulan data dan penyajian statistika deskriptif menjadi pijakan awal yang kokoh, sebelum masuk ke probabilitas dan distribusi yang membentuk landasan matematis dari seluruh inferensi statistika. Estimasi parameter dan pengujian hipotesis kemudian membentuk jembatan antara teori probabilitas dan aplikasi empiris yang nyata dalam penelitian ekonomi.
Salah satu kontribusi utama buku ini adalah pembahasan yang sangat mendalam tentang analisis regresi dalam berbagai wujudnya — dari regresi linier sederhana hingga model-model lanjutan yang mengatasi keterbatasan asumsi klasik. Analisis variansi, korelasi, dan regresi sederhana dibahas sebagai alat fundamental, sementara regresi berganda dan berbagai perluasannya — termasuk model dengan variabel dummy, transformasi non-linear, dan penanganan pelanggaran asumsi melalui standar error yang robust — membekali pembaca dengan kemampuan analitis yang sangat praktis. Model regresi lanjutan seperti regresi logistik untuk variabel dependen kategorik, model Tobit dan Heckman untuk data tersensor dan terseleksi, regresi kuantil untuk analisis distribusi yang menyeluruh, serta metode regularisasi seperti Lasso dan Ridge untuk setting berdimensi tinggi, dibahas dengan kedalaman konseptual yang memadai.
Pemahaman tentang data panel — yang menggabungkan dimensi lintas unit dan dimensi waktu — sangat krusial dalam ekonomi modern karena ia memungkinkan kontrol atas heterogenitas yang tidak teramati. Diskusi tentang Fixed Effects, Random Effects, model panel dinamis dengan estimator GMM Arellano-Bond dan Blundell-Bond, serta pengujian kointegrasi panel untuk data makroekonomi, mencerminkan praktik terbaik dalam penelitian ekonomi empiris. Analisis deret waktu kemudian membuka pintu ke dunia dinamika temporal — dari dekomposisi klasik dan pemulusan eksponensial hingga model ARIMA Box-Jenkins, keluarga model GARCH untuk volatilitas keuangan, kointegrasi dan Error Correction Model, dan Vector Autoregression yang menjadi workhorse analisis makroekonomi.
Buku ini juga membahas secara komprehensif teknik-teknik multivariat yang semakin penting dalam penelitian ekonomi. Analisis faktor dan komponen utama memungkinkan peneliti mengatasi curse of dimensionality dan membangun indeks komposit yang bermakna. Structural Equation Modeling membuka kemungkinan untuk secara bersamaan memodelkan hubungan pengukuran antara konstruk laten dan indikatornya serta hubungan struktural kausal antar konstruk. Analisis klaster memberikan alat untuk menemukan pengelompokan alami dalam data tanpa hipotesis prior, sementara analisis diskriminan memungkinkan pemahaman dan prediksi keanggotaan kelompok yang telah diketahui.
Dimensi metodologis yang sangat penting dan yang mendapat perhatian khusus dalam buku ini adalah inferensi kausal — jantung dari penelitian empiris ekonomi yang paling berdampak. Metode-metode seperti Regression Discontinuity Design, Difference-in-Differences, Synthetic Control, dan Propensity Score Matching dibahas secara mendalam berikut asumsi-asumsi identifikasinya dan cara menguji validitasnya secara empiris. Statistika keuangan dan pasar modal — return aset, teori portofolio Markowitz, CAPM, Value at Risk, dan pengujian efisiensi pasar — menghubungkan statistika dengan dunia keuangan yang sangat dinamis.
Akhirnya, buku ini menutup perjalanannya dengan menatap masa depan — era Big Data dan statistika komputasional. Karakteristik unik Big Data, metode machine learning supervised dan unsupervised, Natural Language Processing untuk analisis teks ekonomi, nowcasting berbasis data alternatif, dan etika penggunaan data dalam konteks kebijakan publik, semuanya dibahas dengan penekanan pada relevansinya untuk penelitian dan kebijakan ekonomi. Panduan praktis tentang penggunaan berbagai software statistika — Excel, SPSS, EViews, Stata, R, dan Python — memastikan bahwa pemahaman konseptual dapat diterjemahkan ke dalam praksis penelitian yang nyata.

  • Eka Wahyu Hestya Budianto

    Eka Wahyu Hestya Budianto. Dilahirkan di Jember pada 8 Agustus 1989. Riwayat pendidikan penulis adalah lulusan santri Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor, Ponorogo, lulus di tahun 2008. Dilanjutkan Sarjana Strata 1/S1 dengan gelar Licence (Lc.), Fakultas Syari’ah wal Qanun, Jurusan Syari’ah Islamiyyah, Universitas Al-Azhar, Kairo, Mesir, lulus di tahun 2015. Kemudian Pascasarjana/S2 dengan gelar Master of Sains (M.Si), Fakultas PS-KTTI, Konsentrasi Ekonomi dan Keuangan Syari’ah, Universitas Indonesia (UI), Jakarta, lulus di tahun 2018. 
    Penulis adalah Dosen Tetap PNS, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim, Malang, Fakultas Ekonomi, dengan rumpun ilmu Ekonomi dan Keuangan Syariah. Penulis juga menjabat sebagai Direktur Bait Syariah Indonesia dan CEO Afanin Group.
